The Dog and the Shadow
(Animal Fable)
Dog snatches pieces of bread from little boy and runs away with it. Meets monkey on bridge who asks for a bit of the bread. Dog refuses, saying there isn't enough for him anyway. Monkey looks in water, sees reflection of dog, calls dog over, points to reflection.
Dear dog, look in to the water and you will see another dog with a piece of bread. I wish to take it but I am afraid of the water. Suppose you try to get since you know how to swim.
Dog opens his mouth to get bread image and real bread falls in the water. Dog chases monkey but it climbs tree. Dog gnaws tree for two hours, breaking all his front teeth.
